Native Fish Australia (SA) recently released a state wide Action Plan for native fish in South Australia, to help improve the plight of this important group. In conjunction with DENR through Nature Links we are keen to promote the availability and use of the Plan within natural resource management through a series of targeted workshops across the different South Australian NRM regions. This is a statewide process and we have just finished workshops in the Adelaide NRM region, on KI and the Eyre Peninsular. They have been well received with great and diverse attendance, lots of interest and positive feedback.

The workshops will be around a 2 hour session in the region with,

(1) a state overview incorporating background to the plan, threatened fish species and relevant threats and actions, (2) to then have an interactive session to address specific fish distribution/ecological assets, practical examples and any concerns or issues specific to the region (e.g. wetland management, water provisions, introduced species, in-stream works, creek restoration projects). Please click the link to find attached an example species Action Statement from the Plan

Action Plan for South Australian Freshwater Fishes Out Now!

The comprehensive Action Plan aims to improve the conservation of freshwater fish in South Australia, with a strong focus on better incorporation of fish and their requirements within Natural Resource Management. It is a first port of call for information regarding the general conservation of freshwater fishes and habitats in SA as well as specific biological information and actions for local threatened fish species and habitats. The aim is to spark a new wave of interest and awareness for freshwater fish and drive much needed on-ground restoration and supportive management.

The plan was published by Native Fish Australia (SA) with support from the SA Department for Environment and Heritage, the Nature Foundation (SA) and WWF
